Dipping and coating is a processed used for a variety of reasons including cleaning or coating an object, altering the surface of an object, or changing the character of an object. Hazards associated with this process depend on the liquids involved, but generally, workers may be exposed to flammable or combustible liquids and vapors and corrosive or toxic vapors that can cause serious bodily harm if inhaled.
If ventilation is not sufficient, respiratory protection must be provided by the employer. Working in a well-ventilated room can help minimize the risk of inhaling toxic vapors in combination with wearing the correct PPE such as:
- Chemical-resistant gloves
- Chemical-resistant aprons or coats
- Eye and face protection
